The RSPCA is appealing for witnesses to come forward after a gull was reportedly hit with a spade during a "shocking incident" at a seaside resort.
The animal charity said witnesses reported the bird being attacked in Lyme Regis on 9 August at about 19:00 BST.
A member of public took the gull to a local vet but it was put to sleep due to the severity of its injuries.
An image of a man has been released by the RSPCA as it believes they may have information about the attack.

RSPCA animal rescue Officer Dean Wilkins, who is investigating for the animal welfare charity, described it as a "shocking incident".
He said: "This was during the school summer holidays so we're appealing to anyone who was in the area at this time and witnessed this, or who recognises the man in the picture who may be able to help us further."
The charity said the man, who was with a group of people having a barbeque, was wearing sunglasses, a purple T-shirt and shorts.
All wild birds are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and it is illegal - except under licence - to intentionally take, injure or kill wild birds or interfere with their nest or eggs.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the charity via its inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
