A large fire has broken out at a recycling centre in Chatham Docks in Kent.

At the height of the fire, eight engines were in attendance, according to Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

"Firefighters have made good progress tackling the blaze involving approximately 300 tonnes of mixed waste," the service added.

"Crews are continuing to make good progress and are dampening down any remaining hot spots."

They said that these types of fires can take some time to be fully extinguished, so crews were expected to be in attendance for at least a day.

Residents in the area have been urged to keep windows and doors closed as smoke could increase as crews work at the scene.

"Please share this information with loved ones in the affected area who may not have access to the internet," the fire service added.
