A man has urged police to crack down on dangerous driving and criticised officers after his property was damaged by a suspected stolen car.

Two vehicles outside Manjeet Panesar's home on Portland Road in Edgbaston, Birmingham, were left smashed following the incident at about 03:00 GMT on 10 March.

West Midlands Police said a car had failed to stop for officers before colliding with others parked on the street.

Mr Panesar described the stretch as dangerous and said he had been left in limbo after trying to contact the force.

Images taken by Mr Panesar, who has lived in the area for 33 years, showed extensive damage.

A vehicle belonging to his sister was written off in the crash and Mr Panesar has already seen his car insurance premium increase by an extra £350 due to the crash.

The 45-year-old said he had struggled to make a claim because officers had not provided him with information required by his insurers.

West Midlands Police said it was investigating the incident and "the victim has been contacted as we continue with our inquiries."

Four vehicles were damaged in total.

Mr Panesar said there had been at least three crashes in the area in recent months and questioned what police were doing to keep locals safe.

"The police are not doing enough," he claimed. "It's absolutely nuts. I'm waiting for someone to get killed."

The compliance officer, who lives with his mother, said the family had thought about leaving the area due to the dangerous roads but felt they should not have to.

"My dad passed away in this house," he said. "There is a lot of sentimental value. We all grew up in this house."

Following the crash, two people were taken to hospital with injuries which are not life-threatening or life-changing.

A spokesperson for West Midlands police said on Wednesday: "We are investigating the incident and arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

"He has been bailed while we investigate but has been recalled to prison for a breach of a previous curfew order."

The force also urged anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
