Two brothers left a man with a brain injury after they attacked him when he tried to pay off his son’s £20 debt.

Callum and Sean McGregor were jailed on Wednesday after assaulting their victim in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, on 8 August 2021.

The man, in his 60s, had visited their flat to give them £20 which was owed to the pair by his son, police said.

After he handed over the money, the brothers attacked him, beating him to the floor with a total of 26 punches captured on CCTV footage.

The man tried to get back to his feet but the pair pushed him back down before stamping on his chest and kicking his head, according to Warwickshire Police.

He was taken to hospital where it was found he had suffered bruising to his brain and a broken cheek bone.

His attackers fled but were later arrested when they were tracked down by officers using CCTV cameras in Leamington town centre.

During their arrest Callum McGregor assaulted a police officer and Sean McGregor was found with a knife, police said.

In Wednesday’s hearing at Warwick Crown Court, Callum McGregor, 27, of Mason Avenue, Leamington, was jailed for four years and eight months.

He had previously pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, common assault of an emergency worker, possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and possession with intent to supply heroin.

Sean McGregor, 31, also of Mason Avenue, Leamington, was jailed for four years after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a knife in a public place.

Det Con Magnus McCauley said their victim suffered an "unprovoked vicious and sustained attack".

“He continues to recover from his injuries, but he will live with the mental scars for the rest of his life, the impact of which cannot be measured,” he added.
