Consultation over major city route upgrade plans

The council said it hoped to make the road safer for cyclists and pedestrians and easier for people to use public transport

A public consultation has opened into proposals to improve travel on a major route into Wolverhampton.

Feedback is being sought over plans for improved cycling provision and footpaths and safer crossings along the A454 Willenhall Road between East Park Way and the Deans Road and Stowheath Lane junction.

The scheme forms part of wider plans for "an interconnected network of active travel routes across the city", said councillor Qaiser Azeem, cabinet member for city highways.

The deadline for responses is 3 October.

The proposals are being developed in conjunction with Black Country Transport to make the route safer for cyclists and pedestrians.

The council also aimed to make it easier for people to use public transport, while ensuring traffic flowed smoothly, it added.

"This is about improving a major road into Wolverhampton for all users, so people can choose to cycle or walk and feel safe doing so," Azeem said.

"It forms part of a wider plan for an interconnected network of active travel routes across the city and the region that can have a positive impact on everything from traffic congestion to air quality and the local economy.

He encouraged people with an interest from across the community to submit their views.
