Christmas Lane's festive light display draws crowds each year

Residents in a street renowned for its spectacular festive lights are already planning their next displays after raising over £4,500 in 2024.

Each year, all the houses in Christmas Lane in Oulton Broad, near Lowestoft, in Suffolk, are decorated - a tradition which attracts the crowds.

So far the 2024 display has raised £4,794 for Angels and Rainbows, a local charity that supports families through baby loss.

And Denise Bretton, one of the Christmas Lane organisers, said some of her neighbours were already working on 2025's festive showstoppers.

Ms Bretton says she is often told the display helps bring joy to families

"The whole of Christmas Lane is now illuminated," Ms Bretton said.

"We live in a very festively named place, I think that helps, but we also have Noel Road and nearly all the houses up there are decorated.

"We have St Michaels Close, several in Church Lane, and it spreads in other directions as well now on all these connected roads.

"It's magnificent.

"There's been crowds of people come down Christmas Lane... it's quite something to come out of your house and see people taking selfies.

"I still can't quite get my head around that one."

Ms Bretton is already planning her next display

She said residents were "bowled over with support" for their chosen charity.

Donations are still coming in for Angels and Rainbows, which will be 2025's charity too.

"We're already planning what we're going to do, some people are even making some displays already," Ms Bretton said.

"There's always something else you can do and people get ideas... it's so exciting."
