Charities have organised an event to discuss the ways Jersey can support older people and those with disabilities on the island.

Jersey Overseas Aid has joined up with disability charity CBM UK and Age International to talk about how the island can offer more support.

Director of international programmes at CBM UK, Matthew Hanning, said it was about "breaking down barriers".

Diana Hiscock from Age International said she wanted to help people have "equal access to support when they need it".

Mr Hanning added: "There are a lot of reasons why there's this cycle between poverty and disability...it's all about breaking those barriers, breaking that cycle."

Ms Hiscock said: "From our point of view we see a lot of times older people and people with disabilities are not counted.

"If you can't count them you don't know they're there so they remain invisible.

"What we want to do is make sure they have equal access to support when they need it, the way they need it at the right time, not to be excluded and to be the people that are left behind."
