A Warwickshire hospital has opened its new main entrance, which hopes to create a more welcoming space and improve navigation and access.

The ground floor at Warwick Hospital now has an M&S, Costa, and an in-house restaurant, and also includes the reception, outpatient pharmacy, patient advice and liaison service, and the hospital's charity hub.

It is phase one of the South Warwickshire University Hospital Trust's development plans, and is part of wider investment to improve patient experience and support clinical growth.

The upper floors are due to open in winter 2026/27, housing two new hospital wards with treatment rooms, clinic areas and waiting rooms.

The trust said these wards would support the relocation of the Hatton and 23 Hour wards, upping bed capacity and allowing the demolition of older infrastructure.

Phase Two of the transformation will see an elective hub created, with new day surgery theatres, and a bigger diagnostics department.

There will also be what the trust describes as a "hospital within a hospital" model, which would keep planned care separate from emergency services.

"Our Trust is committed to transforming the Warwick Hospital estate into a modern, high-quality healthcare environment that delivers sustainable, accessible, and patient-centred care," said Sophie Gilkes, chief strategy officer at the trust.

"The opening of our new main entrance marks a key milestone in phase one - improving visitor experience, wayfinding, and on-site amenities.

"We are now excited to begin working on phase two, which will expand our clinical capacity, continue to reduce waiting times, and ensure we can meet future demand while delivering even better care for our patients."
