Plans for four new padel courts and a clubhouse close to Mansfield Town’s One Call Stadium have been approved.

The new courts will be located on an area of unused wasteland next to 3G pitches off Quarry Lane.

The £1m development was first proposed to Mansfield District Council by the World Padel Academy (WPA) in November.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said the council’s decision to approve the new development came with conditions, one being that covered and secure cycle parking facilities be implemented.

The development forms part of a wider £10m investment to promote the sport in the UK by the WPA, a UAE-based organisation.

Often simplified as a mash-up of tennis and squash, padel is played with a perforated bat in an enclosed space less than half the size of a tennis court.

The move comes after Notts County opened new padel courts at their Meadow Lane Stadium in November 2022.
