A motorway bridge has reopened after closing for emergency overnight repairs.

The westbound carriageway of the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge, which links Wales and South Gloucestershire, was closed on Sunday for overnight repairs due to a "carriageway defect".

The emergency work between J21 and J23 was separate to planned repairs and maintenance, National Highways said.

It reopened at about 04:30 BST on Monday, after being delayed by spells of torrential rain.

National Highways posted on social media earlier, saying: "Thanks for your patience whilst these works took place.

"There are no delays in the area."
