Police say they are treating an attack outside a pub as a hate crime.
Two men were kicked and punched by a third man outside the Wetherspoons pub in Bridge Street, Guildford, Surrey, just after midnight on 22 June.
Detectives say it was reported that homophobic language was used just before the assault, which left a man in his 20s needing hospital treatment.
The attacker is described as around 25, about 6ft (1.83m) tall and stocky, and may have been wearing a suit.
