A main road in Nottinghamshire has been partially shut after a crash which has left a person in a life-threatening condition, police said.

The collision, which involved a number of cars, happened on the northbound carriageway of the A46, near Bridgford Garden Centre, at about 11:35 GMT on Thursday.

The closure is in place between the A52 Saxondale Island northbound and the B6166 at Newark, with the southbound carriageway now open.

Motorists, particularly HGV drivers, are being advised to use alternative routes as closures are likely to remain in place for "some time", the force added.
