An Australian rugby league fan who has flown 10,500 miles (16,864 km) to watch Hull Kingston Rovers in this weekend's Super League Grand Final said it felt "special" to be part of such a friendly club.

Leonard Gregory, 56, from Sydney, said he became interested in the team after his wife paid a visit to Craven Park during the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

"Every supporter who comes to a game, buys a shirt, or talks about the club is just as important - I just happen to live 10,000 miles away," he said.

The Robins and Wigan Warriors go again on Saturday, a year on from their showdown at Old Trafford, which Wigan won 9-2.

Mr Gregory, who made the same trip with his wife last year, described the experience as "just like catching a bus".

"24 hours on a bus - that's all it is," he added.

Victory for Hull KR would see them add their name to the list of modern-day treble winners, along with Bradford Bulls, St Helens, Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors.

Mr Gregory said he was "quietly confident" his team could overturn last year's result.

"Memories are better than dreams," he added.

He said it would also be great for the staff and players at the club who had given their all this season.

The Betfred Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford kicks off at 18:00 BST.
