A waterfall of poppies has been unveiled outside a village church ready for Remembrance Day.

The display can be seen cascading down the side of Boldre church in the New Forest.

A team of more than 50 volunteers knitted about 6,000 poppies.

"It's been great and the goodwill within the community is phenomenal," says Stephanie Glen the project organiser.

She said it had been "a huge job but a very rewarding one".

The team also plans to decorate the inside of the church with poppies.

"So many people gave their lives to preserve ours and we should always be greatful," she said.

She added that she hopes to be able to store the display in the church tower after Remembrance Day, so that it can be reused each year.

Margaret Verdon is one of the volunteers who took part in the project.

"I was a child in the war, so unlike some of the others here, I'm old enough to remember it," she said.

Her father served in the Royal Navy in World War One.

She said: "I grew up in the wars so that's why I wanted to do it, as a memory for all those people who gave up their lives for us."
