Investigation after train hits buffers at Southminster

A train operator said there would be an investigation after a train hit the buffers at Southminster train station, blocking some of the lines.

Greater Anglia warned passengers that train services running to and from the station could be cancelled, delayed, or revised after an "operational incident".

An eye witness told BBC Essex that a train had struck the buffers earlier this afternoon.

The train operator said all disruption was now over.

Greater Anglia said, external the line between Wickford and Southminster was severely disrupted.

A Greater Anglia spokesperson said: “We can confirm there was an incident at Southminster railway station this afternoon where a train struck the buffer stops at a very low speed.

"Nobody was injured. The line reopened at 1712 and services are now able to run as normal. A full investigation into the incident will take place."
