The family of man who died days after being stabbed in a street have said they cannot believe they will "never get to see his cheeky smile again".

Michael McCann was attacked on Bradford Street in Bolton, Greater Manchester, on Friday and died in hospital two days later.

In a tribute, his family said his "sole purpose in life" was taking care of his loved ones and they were in "total shock" at the 35-year-old's death.

Paul Simmons, 48, of Bradford Street, has been charged with murder and two other people have also been charged in connection to the attack.

'Miss you'

A 31-year-old man, of no fixed address, was charged with assisting an offender, while a 37-year-old woman, also of no fixed address, was charged with obstructing police.

Meanwhile, a 50-year-old-man has been released after being arrested on suspicion of assault.

Mr McCann's family said they would "always cherish the time we had together".

They continued: "Though we had hoped for more [years] than we have already, they will never be taken for granted.

“Our family will miss our brother’s smile as it showed what true happiness looked like.

"We will all miss you so much. We love you Micky.”

Det Chf Insp Nicola McCulloch appealed for witnesses to the attack or anyone with relevant footage from the area to come forward.
