A man has been charged in connection with the stabbing of a 17-year-old boy.

Essex Police was called to reports of a boy being assaulted in the Hythe area of Colchester, Essex, on 22 July.

Police said the victim remains in hospital but his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The man has been charged with wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Essex Police previously said witnesses reported five men attacked the youth on Hatcher Crescent at about 18:15 BST before leaving the scene in a silver Vauxhall Astra.

Det Insp Paul Olney said: “This investigation has moved quickly and I’d like to thank the public for their support whilst we have carried out inquiries in the area.

“We believe this to be an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public.”

A date for the man's first court appearance has yet to be set.
