A teenage boy is in a critical condition following a collision between a car and a minibus.

The incident took place on the A1(M) at Alconbury near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, on Saturday afternoon.

Police said a 16-year-old boy, who was in the front seat of a Peugeot, was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital, while seven minibus passengers were treated for minor injuries.

The minibus driver, a 26-year-old man from South Yorkshire, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

He was released on bail until November, Cambridgeshire police said.

The A1(M) was closed for several hours after the collision near junction 14 at about 16:30 GMT.

A 49-year-old woman, who was driving the Peugeot 107, also suffered minor injuries.

Police said the minibus involved in the incident was a Ford Transit 350 Leader.

Sgt Mark Atkins, of the Beds, Cambs and Herts road policing unit, appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

"Many people stopped to help but have not yet provided statements, therefore I would also like to appeal for them to get in touch with us," he added.
