A man charged with murder and arson with intent to endanger life after a fire in Huddersfield will go on trial later this year.

Marcin Kramarski, 52, is accused of starting a fire which killed Lithuanian national Raimondas Vondas, 52, at his flat on Hillhouse Lane in Fartown in the early hours of 14 February.

Mr Vondas was one of six people rescued from the property. He died in hospital on Monday.

A trial date of September 2 was set by Judge Robin Mairs at Leeds Crown Court on Friday, with Mr Kramarski remanded in custody.

Appearing via video link from prison, Mr Kramarski, of Hillhouse Lane in Huddersfield, spoke only to confirm his name during the short hearing.

He is due to appear at the same court on March 21 for a pre-trial and preparation hearing.
