Murder investigation launched after Cork assault

A murder investigation is under way after a man was attacked in a car park in County Cork.

Ian Baitson died in hospital on Tuesday after the assault on the Newtown Road, Cobh at about 20:55 local time on Friday.

It is reported that Mr Baitson, who was in his early 30s, was attacked by a sword and lost a significant amount of blood.

Gardaí (Irish police) said they have received preliminary results of a post-mortem examination and have launched a murder investigation.

Gardaí have also appealed to any witnesses or those who were travelling on the Newtown Road between 20:45 and 21:15 to contact them.
