Two leisure centres are temporarily closing for essential maintenance and repairs.

Stratford Park Leisure Centre in Stroud closed on Friday and will reopen on 9 November with a new and improved cafe, while the Pulse Leisure Centre in Dursley will be closed from 4 until 13 November.

The leisure centres, which are both operated by Stroud District Council, will reopen with "a new look" and will be known as Active Lifestyles Stroud and Active Lifestyles Dursley, the council said.

The repairs at Stratford Park leisure centre are part of a £2.7m investment into the site with a five-year repair programme to improve the 1975 centre.

The district council said the funding will pay for brickwork repairs, roofing, decoration, doors, flooring, air conditioning upgrades, lighting and the external toilet block at the leisure centre.

As part of the changes, members of the leisure centre in Stroud will also be able to use the facilities at The Pulse Dursley.

Angela Gillingham, head of community services, said officers are working hard to provide the best possible service.

"We want a leisure service for everyone living in our district and we have thought long and hard about what we want to provide," she said.

"We think this is an exciting first step on a whole new offering for our district."
