Schoolchildren in Hull have been invited to design the council's official Christmas e-card

Schoolchildren are being encouraged to get creative and design Hull City Council's official Christmas e-card.

The authority has invited every school in the city to take part, asking pupils to come up with a creation on the theme of Hull at Christmas.

The winning designs in both the primary and secondary age category would then be used on the card, which would be sent to all employees, partners and stakeholders within the city and beyond, the council said.

Council leader Mike Ross said they were particularly keen to see entries that celebrated how Christmas brought people together "with a Hull twist".

Ross and the council’s chief executive, Matt Jukes, will draw up a shortlist before selecting a winner and runner-up in each category, with gift cards as prizes.

“The competition is open to secondary school pupils this year for the first time, so I’m looking forward to seeing how children of all ages use their creative talents and enjoy some festive fun," Ross added.

The deadline for submissions is noon on Friday 29 November, with judging taking place the following week.
