Repairs to a road, described by a council boss as being in an “absolute dire state”, will start next month.

Freeman Road in North Hykeham will be reconstructed using more than 2,500 tonnes of asphalt , Lincolnshire County Council said.

Work is scheduled to start on 28 October and take up to three months to complete, it said.

Councillor Richard Davies, the authority's executive member for highways, added the road was “crumbling to pieces”.

“While on site, we’ll also be carrying out some drainage and kerbing repairs, which need to be done,” Davies said.

The work will take place along the entirety of the 1,640ft (500m) road, the council confirmed.

There will be temporary traffic signals during the day and closures will be in place from 19:00 to 06:00, including weekends.

Access will be maintained for all businesses and emergency services.

Davies added: “We’ll be doing all we can to keep disruption down to a minimum. In the meantime, I want to thank everyone in advance for their patience.”
