A man has appeared in court after a "no-body" murder investigation was launched by police.

Karl Hutchings, of The Hill in Christchurch, Cambridgeshire, appeared before Judge Mark Bishop at a crown court hearing in Huntingdon, charged with the murder of Julie Buckley.

Ms Buckley, 54, was last seen on CCTV at a Budgens shop in March on 28 January.

Mr Hutchings, 47, is due to appear for a plea hearing on 17 March and a trial date has been set for 21 September.

Detectives said they would treat the disappearance of Ms Buckley as murder as she had not been seen since January.

Officers said they hoped to find her alive, but evidence suggested she had come to serious harm.

Cambridgeshire Police has since appealed for dashcam footage of reported "suspicious activity" at March's Bedlam Bridge.

It wants to hear from anyone who drove in that area on 30 January, at around 20:00 or 21:00 GMT.

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A man, 49, and woman, 42, from Christchurch have been released on bail and another man, 45, remains in custody.
