Inquires into the death of a man who was found unconscious in a house are still ongoing, after a post-mortem examination proved inconclusive.

Police found the man in his 40s unresponsive at an address in Hayward Road, Bristol, just after 17:40 BST on Thursday. He later died at the scene.

Officers said a man who was arrested on suspicion of murder at the same address has been released under investigation, as the cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

Avon and Somerset Police said it is treating the death as unexplained as it waits for the results of further forensic medical analysis.

The force said the family of the deceased are being kept informed of the investigation by specialist officers.

Neighbourhood Ch Insp Keith Smith said the force's "thoughts are with the man's family in their loss".

"We'll continue our thorough investigation into what has happened and will prepare a report for the coroner, should no criminal offences be identified," he said.
