Lanes blocked by lorry fire on motorway

Two lanes have been closed on the motorway for a short distance. A lorry has been pulled to the side of the road and cones are blocking off on of the lanes on the motorway. Traffic is moving past the lorry and there is a police car on either side of it.Image source, National Highways

A motorway has reopened after a lorry fire closed two lanes.

Emergency services were called to the A1(M) southbound between junction 15 and junction 14, near Sawtry and Alconbury in Cambridgeshire at 04:52 BST on Tuesday.

Crews from Huntingdon and Stanground used two hose reels to extinguish the fire and administered first aid to the driver for minor injuries.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said the was nothing in the lorry trailer at the time and the fire was accidental.
