A ninth teenager has been charged in connection with violence that broke out on a city seafront.

Essex Police seized several weapons in Southend-on-Sea, including a firearm, amid scenes of disorder on Tuesday, 30 July.

The force said a 17-year-old, from Woodford Green, north east London, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a bladed article and violent disorder.

He was due to appear at Southend Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

A further eight people charged in relation to the disorder remain in custody and are due to appear at Basildon Crown Court on 2 September.

"We continue to work to identify, locate, and arrest anyone involved in those incidents and will pursue them relentlessly," Ch Supt Leighton Hammett said.

"If anyone is thinking of coming here to commit crime, be in no doubt that you will be dealt with."
