Broken equipment leads to M6 rush hour delay

Broken equipment caused planned roadworks to overrun, National Highways said

Overrunning roadworks caused by a broken-down piece of equipment led to reported rush hour delays of at least an hour on the M6.

National Highways said the northbound carriageway between junction four for Birmingham Airport and junction four A for the M42 had not reopened at 06:00 BST as planned.

It added traffic officers helped the roadworks crew remove the broken equipment from the carriageway.

In a post on X, National Highways confirmed the route closure was lifted at about 08:00, with residual delays expected to clear.

The overnight maintenance works had shut the route in both directions between junctions five and six from 21:00 on Monday.
