A scheme to help people in Jersey buy an electric vehicle has closed after allocating more than 1,200 incentives to islanders and businesses.

The Electric Vehicle Purchase Incentive (EVPI, external) scheme began in August 2023.

It allowed islanders to receive up to £3,500 towards the purchase of a new or used electric car or van.

Minister for the Environment Deputy Steve Luce said the uptake of the incentive was "much greater and quicker" than expected.

'Significant emission reductions'

Infrastructure and Environment said at 45%, transport remained the largest source of Jersey's greenhouse gas emissions.

The environment minister said he was pleased to see many islanders had benefited from the scheme.

He added: "The funds for this incentive were coming to an end when I last made an announcement in October, and as expected the final incentives have now been allocated which naturally draws the scheme to a close.

"This scheme will continue to deliver significant emission reductions for years to come, due to an increase in electric journeys and decrease in petrol and diesel commutes."
