'End of an era' as Victorian Weekend bows out

The Victorian Weekend in Robin Hood's Bay has been running for more than 30 years

An annual Victorian weekend celebration at a North Yorkshire seaside village is to be cancelled after more than 30 years.
Organisers of the Robin Hood's Bay Victorian Weekend said this December's event would be the "grand finale", as no new organisers had come forward to replace the current committee which is stepping down.
The festival launched in 1994 with the aim of boosting the village's local economy "in the quieter months", but it had now become a "year-round destination", the organisers said.
They added it would be the "end of of an era".
The final Victorian Weekend will take place on 6-7 December.
It follows the popular Goth Weekend at nearby Whitby, which took place around Halloween, and also launched in 1994.
'Truly memorable' finale
The Robin Hood's Bay event organisers said: "After more than 30 years of tradition, fundraising and community spirit, Victorian Weekend 2025 will mark the end of an era for Robin Hood's Bay.
"Originally created to boost the village and support local businesses during the quieter months, the event has grown alongside the village, which is now a year-round destination.
"The success of Victorian Weekend has always relied on dedicated steering committees and countless volunteers.
"However with the current group stepping down and no new organisers coming forward, the decision has been made to end the event and there will be no Victorian Weekend in 2026."
The final Victorian Weekend would be "truly memorable", the group said.
It added: "A heartfelt thank you to performers, volunteers, visitors and the local community for your support over the years."
