A woman and a girl, arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child, have been released on conditional bail.
Humberside Police were called to a property on Searby Road in Scunthorpe at about 09:00 GMT on Monday after they received a report of a six-year-old boy suffering a medical episode.
The boy was taken to hospital and died a short time later.
Leading the investigation, Det Ch Insp Ben Robinson said a 38-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl arrested in connection with the death had been released "whilst enquiries are ongoing".
He said the death was being treated as "unexplained" and a "scene guard" remained in place.
Anyone with information that could support the investigation is being urged to contact the police.
