No timeline on tax repayments as thousands wait

The Revenue Service said issuing repayments was its "top priority"

Guernsey's Revenue Service has said it is unable to offer a timeframe for tax repayments despite thousands still waiting.
The service said more than 30,000 assessments were issued since the beginning of April, of which 11,196 customers were advised a repayment was due.
It said it was "unable to issue repayment cheques" while it moved to a new system and it had "sent out 138 repayments, which highlights the scale of the task ahead of us".
"We're sorry that we're not able to give a timeframe on when repayments will be received, but having previously focused on issuing tens of thousands of assessments, issuing repayments is now our top priority," it said.
The Revenue Service said it was continuing to familiarise itself with a new system.
"We are carrying out more checks than we were previously," it said.
"We apologise for the time that it has taken to issue repayments and understand the impact that this can have on islanders' finances and consequently their wellbeing."
There is not set amount of time the service advised customers to wait before calling to chase a repayment, but it said "be assured that we are working through these".
