A man in his 70s has died from injuries suffered in a hit-and-run crash in Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Hill Street and Kilwardby Street just after 21:30 BST on Monday, following a report of a man being struck by a car.

Leicestershire Police said the 79-year-old pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he died on Thursday.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has since been released on bail.

Police said when officers arrived at the scene, the driver of the car had left.

Officers have appealed for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage that could help the investigation to come forward.
