Price of church weddings and funerals set to rise
The governing body of some church organisations, the General Synod, has started a week long meeting.
Up for discussion are new rules that could see fees for weddings and funerals rise dramatically.
The Church of England could raise the cost of wedding ceremonies from £284 to £425 if the proposal to create a universal fee with no hidden extras is passed.
The cost of being buried by the Church of England would also increase sharply with the basic fee for a funeral due to rise from £102 to £150.
BBC Breakfast, external has spoken to Rt Revd James Langstaff, Bishop of Rochester, who proposed the changes.
