G20 considers global meeting as food prices rise

France, the US and Mexico, the country holding presidency of the G-20, are due to discuss whether an emergency international meeting is needed to deal with soaring prices of grain, caused by the worst drought in the United States in 50 years.

While hot and dry weather damages crop yields in the US, a major grain exporter, it is feared food prices in Asia will rise, hurting poor people.

Geoff Hiscock, author of Earth Wars, The Battle for Global Resources, has been telling the BBC's Asia Business Report that several factors are driving up the price of food.
