More investment in farming will increase food supplies

The United Nations has warned that extreme weather this year, from floods to drought, could lead to a major hunger crisis next year.

Poor harvests in the United States and Russia pushed global food prices to an all time high in July, provoking governments and aid agencies to consider ways of tackling the crisis.

More investment in better farming techniques in developing countries would certainly help, and a number of companies are considering ways of funding agriculture.

Detlef Schoen, from Aquila Capital, told Asia Business Report's Rico Hizon, increasing food supplies is vital because the world's population continues to grow.
