Charity brings clean water - and phones - to Gambia village
A project funded by the Isle of Man has brought water to hundreds of people living in a village in rural Africa.
Fams Camara, 45, appealed to the Manx International Development Committee (IDC) for funding to drill for water in his childhood home of Bajoukunda, replacing the inadequate well which his mother dug more than 40 years ago.
He said the well, which took only a few days to build, will provide 1,800 people with clean water for 60 years.
He also handed out old mobile phones, one of them enabled a family to call for doctor to assist a woman in labour. The parents were so thrilled, they have named their child after the Nokia phone.
