UK house prices increase 8% in a year says ONS

The economy may be recovering but two bits of news today showed that the UK isn't out of the woods yet.

Figures for house prices showed they were still going up rapidly particularly in London and the South East, confirming fears expressed only a few days ago by the governor of the Bank of England.

However today's small increase in inflation, the first in ten months , showed the squeeze on incomes is not yet over.
