Excavation of WW1 internment camp on Isle of Man
Secrets of a World War One internment camp could be unearthed as excavation work is taking place on the Isle of Man.
More than 20,000 enemy aliens were detained at Knockaloe Farm in the west of the island during the war.
Professor Harold Mytum, director of centre for Manx studies, said they had found remains of the infrastructure of the camp, which was the size of a small town.
The trial excavation at Knockaloe is the start of a project that will try to better define the role the Isle of Man played in WW1.
