European Union introduces ban on seal products

The European Union has introduced an import ban on seal products.

But a ruling has temporarily exempted Inuits and several other organizations involved in the seal trade from the effects of the ban.

The Inuits say the trade ban is detrimental to their traditional way of life but argue that the reprieve will not go far enough to protect their livelihoods as eventually their European export market will die.
