Employers call for halt to EU maternity pay plans

A proposal to increase the amount of paid maternity leave from 14 to 20 weeks will be voted on this week by the European Parliament.

The changes are designed to help working families but the Federation of Small Businesses is urging MEPs to reject the idea, claiming it will cost the UK taxpayer £2.5bn a year.
