Mining giants abandon plans for iron ore merger

Plans for one of the biggest joint ventures in history are being abandoned. Rival mining giants Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton had agreed to combine their iron ore production operations in Western Australia, but those plans are now being dropped.

Between them, the two companies control more than a third of global production. Alex Ritson reports.
