Virgin speeds up UK cable network

Britain's third biggest internet provider Virgin Media has released its third quarter results. From June to September it saw strong revenue growth which was up by 6.4% to £978m, it also added around 14,000 net new customers. However, it still made a loss of over £200m so far this year.

Despite that, it has announced plans to roll out an ultra-fast broadband service across the UK. The company claims that people will be able to get broadband speeds of up to 100MB - almost 20 times faster than the current UK average of 5.2MB.

The Chief Executive of Virgin Media, Neil Berkett, told the BBC why he would bet the company's future on broadband.
