Irish Republic PM Cowen confirms EU bail-out plan

The Republic of Ireland and the EU have agreed a financial rescue package, Prime Minister Brian Cowen has confirmed.

Mr Cowen said the amount and terms would be negotiated with the EU and the IMF in the coming days.

The taoiseach said the government would be publishing a four-year budget plan that would restructure the banking industry.
