Funding for initial public offerings soared in 2010

Figures from the London Stock Exchange show funding for initial public offerings (IPOs) soared by more than 500% in 2010 compared with the previous year.

The IPOs, including ones from India's Essar Energy and African Barrick Gold, raised a total of £10.1bn in the year.

In New York, still the world's capital for IPOs, much of the activity and excitement came from companies based in China.
