Reaction from a petrol forecourt as fuel prices soar

Petrol prices are now at record highs, costing on average £63.50 to fill your tank.

Prices have risen more than 2p a litre following the 20% VAT hike, taking petrol pump prices to an average of 127p a litre and diesel prices to an average of 131p a litre.

At the same time last year, petrol cost 110p a litre whilst diesel cost 111p.

BBC business correspondent Simon Jack spoke to Brian Madderson, chairman of RMI Petrol which represents retailers and forecourt operators and asked him if prices could get even higher in the future.
