Egypt demonstrations worry shipping industry

The demonstrations in Egypt have started to concern the shipping industry. Egypt is a vital shipping route between Europe and Asia, with around 8% of the world's trade passing through it.

The Suez canal remains open but ships wishing to dock and refuel before leaving Egypt are finding ports such Alexandria, Damietta and Port Said unmanned or running on a skeleton crew.

Patrick Adamson, from the shipping consultants MTI Network, said alternative ports may need to be used.
