BP's battle with the oligarchs over Rosneft deal

BP has been trying to rebuild its reputation and secure its future after the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Its new boss Bob Dudley was counting on a major tie-up with Russian state energy giant Rosneft to exploit potentially huge oil reserves in the Arctic.

But so far that has also proved disastrous. The deal has been blocked in court by four billionaire oligarchs who are BP's existing business partners in Russia - the co-owners of BP-TNK .

An embarrassed Bob Dudley is doing everything he can to salvage the deal - and on Friday he will get the result of a legal appeal over the tie-up.

But Cornelia Meyer, an independent energy expert and former BP executive, says Bob Dudley is not entirely to blame for the situation.
