Barroso calls for greater eurozone integration

The president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, has described the eurozone debt crisis as the greatest challenge in the European Union's history.

Mr Barroso's speech came a day after Greece adopted an unpopular new property tax in an effort to bring down its budget deficit and secure further assistance from international creditors.

Mr Barroso said one of the most important keys to avoiding further crises in the eurozone, was greater integration.
