Calls for Blackberry-maker RIM to put itself up for sale

The Blackberry smartphone used to be the gadget of choice for company bosses and those in power, but the Canadian company that makes Blackberrys, Research in Motion, is in now trouble.

Its share price plunged 75 per cent in 2011 after disappointing sales and a technical fault that affected millions of customers.

Now some shareholders in Research in Motion want the company to put itself up for sale or be broken up.

The calls are being led by the activist shareholder Jaguar Financial.

Its chief executive, Vic Alboini, spoke to Rob Young from BBC World Service's World Business Report.
